Rising Stars is a unique and forward-looking collaboration between 22 of Europe’s leading concert halls, all members of the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO). Six young musicians and ensembles from various countries are selected each year and given the opportunity to tour the concert halls and perform before international audiences.

Don’t miss the opportunity to hear tomorrow’s classical music stars today. Experience shows that those who are selected as Rising Stars also have internationally successful careers. This year’s Rising Stars will be presented during an intensive weekend of chamber music at Konserthuset Stockholm.

Saxophonist Jess Gillam, nominated to Rising Stars by Sage Gateshead, has performed at Last Night of the Proms and was the first saxophonist to reach the finale of BBC Young Musician. Together with pianist Zeynep Özsuca Rattle, she will present a programme spanning from eighteenth-century Venice to newly composed works by Edmund Finnis (commissioned by ECHO) and John Hant, whose music navigates the borders of different genres. In addition, we will hear Poulenc’s tribute to Sergei Prokofiev, Graham Fitkin’s Gate for soprano saxophone and piano, and music by Weill and Wiedoeft.

Pedro Iturralde – Pequeña Czarda for alto saxophone and piano
Francis Poulenc – Sonata for oboe and piano, version for saxophone and piano
Graham Fitkin – Gate for soprano saxophone and piano
Alessandro Marcello – Oboe Concerto in c minor, version for saxophone and piano
Meredith Monk – Early Morning Music, version for saxophone solo
Edmund Finnis – New Work
John Harle – RANT! for soprano saxophone and piano
Kurt Weill – Je ne t’aime pas, version for saxophone and piano
Rudy Wiedoeft – Valse vanité for saxophone and piano
