Dvořák Symphony No.7 in D minor, Op.70
In this program we present our resident composer for the 2023-24 season: Anna Clyne. We are betting on the creation of one of the most successful composers of our days by joining her commission of her new saxophone concerto titled Glasslands, conceived for Jess Gillam. The work is inspired by the imaginary world of banshees – Irish female spirits from the other world who break the silence of the night with their scream to announce the death of a close relative.
This young and dynamic saxophonist embodies a new concept of an artist involved in the society of our time through musical dissemination – with her own space on the British radio station BBC Radio 3 – or the creation of her own virtual orchestra, Jess accompanies us for the first time along with conductor Elena Schwarz, another of the great new names on the international circuit and who completes the program with two great classics of Antonín Dvořák’s symphony: his Seventh Symphony and his overture Domov můj, performed for the first time by the OSCyL and which can be translated as “my country” or “my home”.
